Empowerment:Kano govt distributes 7,158 goats,1,975 rams to beneficiaries

A total of 7,158 goats has been distributed to 2,386 beneficiaries by the Kano State Government as part of its economic empowerment programme.

The state Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Danjuma Mahmoud, disclosed this to newsmen in Kano on Thursday.

Mahmoud said each beneficiary received three goats under the initiative of
the Livestock Fattening Programme of the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP).

He also revealed that the government had distributed 1,975 rams to 987 beneficiaries,adding that each of them got two rams for fattening with 3 months feeds and drugs.

Similarly,the commissioner said, the state government gave out a total of
1,400 bulls to 700 beneficiaries, and that each of them got  two bulls with 3 months feeds and drugs. 

He said a total sum of N2.23 billion was spent on the exercise by the government.

It will be recalled that Governor Abba Yusuf recently launched the second phase of the women empowerment initiative of the Livestock Fattening Programme of the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP).

Yusuf said at the launch that the initiative was aimed at combating poverty and promoting economic self-reliance.
 
He said that the programme involved distribution of livestock to women across the 44 local government areas of the state.
