The Kano Civil Society Forum(KCSF) has hosted a team of the Canadian Fund For Local Initiatives(CFLI) aimed at learning about the Initiative and exploring its support.
The meeting which took place in Kano on Wednesday was also to enable about 40 Civil Society Organizations(CSOs) in the state to tap into the opportunities being provided by the CFLI.
Addressing journalists shortly after the interactive meeting, President of the KCSF, Mohammed Bello, said the gathering also enabled the CSOs to understand the operations of the Initiative and explore the support it provides.
Bello said the CSOs could use such support from the CFLI to facilitate development within their respective communities.
"The CFLI is also here to learn from the CSOs what exactly they have been doing, and to what extent can the fund support their activities, looking at the challenges they face in delivering the kind of support they render at the level of their communities," he said.
According to him,the meeting was to expose the CSOs under the umbrella of the KCSF to the opportunities found in the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives and for the fund to also learn about the activities of the CSOs in order to know the attention they would need from the Donor Agencies.
The president also said that the CFLI shared their thoughts during the meeting about the thematic areas within the fund which the CSOs could benefit from.
Such thematic areas he said, included health, education, climate change, governance, entrepreneurship, peace and security.
He expressed delight that most of the CSOs in the state are working around the listed thematic areas which the Initiative is focusing on.
