Kano Court Bans Nineteen Political Parties from Interfering in Local Government Elections

The Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Sanusi Ado Maaji, has temporarily restrained 19 political parties from taking any action that could scuttle the upcoming Local Government Council elections.

The court’s order, made on behalf of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), prevents the parties from disrupting the electoral process in the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs)

The interim injunction specifically bars the defendants, including their agents, servants, or affiliates, from action

“That an order of Interim injunction is hereby made restraining the defendants from taking any action and or steps to stop and frustrate the plaintiff from discharging its statutory duties to continue to organize, conduct, regulate and supervise the Local
Government Election in Kano State pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice before this court.

“That an order of interim injunctionis hereby made restraining the Defendants either by themselves, agents, privies, servants or any other person(s) whatsoever from doing any act capable of scutting the efforts of the plaintif to organize, conduct, regulate and supervise the Local Government Election in Kano pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice before this court.”

Parties in the case include Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, ( KANSIEC) while the Defendants comprising of Accord Parties, Action Alliance,  All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, New Nigeria  Peoples Party among others.

Justice Ma’aji Consequently adjourned the case to 10th Octobe, 2024 for hearing of the motion on notice.
