Lagos, Nigeria – Nigerian consumers have expressed dissatisfaction with claims by poultry farmers that egg prices have been reduced, arguing that the cuts are not being reflected in local markets.
According to reports, the Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria (PAN) recently announced a slash in egg prices to ease the burden on households amid rising food inflation. However, buyers in Lagos, Abuja, and other major cities insist that prices remain high, with little to no difference from what they paid weeks ago.
Some traders confirmed that while farmers may have announced reductions, middlemen and retailers continue to sell at old prices, leaving consumers frustrated.
Economic analysts say the development underscores the gap between farm-gate prices and retail costs, often worsened by distribution challenges and profiteering along the value chain.
Consumers have urged authorities and relevant associations to step in and ensure that the reported price slash trickles down to final buyers.
