Clash Claimed the Life of 2 People and 7 Injured in Kwara.

Tension as clashed erupt between Ndeji and Lema communities in Lafiagi Emirate in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State on Thursday 15th August 2024 that claimed the life of
two people while seven others were injured. 

The two communities sandwiched between Gbugbu and Lafiagi, headquarters of Edu local government Council are usually at war over land disputes.

The police, however, said that they are on top of the situation adding that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to sources in the area who spoke on the matter on Thursday, the crisis stemmed from a long-standing land dispute between the two communities.

A source revealed that tensions escalated when a community leader was rumoured to be planning to allocate the disputed land to the Lema community, sparking fears among the Ndeji people and leading to a violent confrontation between the two groups.

The situation escalated as both sides sought to protect their interests, resulting in heightened tensions and conflict.

The Police Commissioner said, “Yes, it is true there was a communal clash between two communities sandwiched between Gbugbu and Lafiagi in Edu local government. They were fighting over land, Two people were killed and about seven people were injured and have been taken to the hospital where they were receiving treatment.

“We want to assure members of the public of the safety of their lives and property. The perpetrators are now in our custody, while an investigation is ongoing,” Olaiya said.
